Easter Long Weekend and Songs (Willy Wonka and Fairness)

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the songs we are learning for BOTH the Willy Wonka play and our Fairness Assembly which is coming up at the beginning of May.  Please make sure you continue to practice both of these items at home - songs and lyrics have been provided a couple weeks ago and I hope you are able to use these to help with your singing.  PLEASE make sure you work on these much like we have done at school with other Grade 2 classes.  Use the links provided on the "SPRING BREAK" blog for both of these - WILLY WONKA and FAIRNESS ASSEMBLY SONG

Enjoy your long weekend with family and friends and I will see you on Tuesday, April 19th =;)

Stay safe and thank you for working so hard,

Mr. Engel

Week of March 28 - April 1, 2022

Good afternoon Wonderful Students and Families,

I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe and enjoying all the fun and exciting learning activities we have taken part in.  We would like to send out a great BIG, "Thank You" to the 4 Parent Volunteers we had this past week during our fun Felting activity in our classroom!  You guys did a fantastic job and made the afternoon of learning that much more fun and helpful, thank you so much from our class =;)

Below are some pictures of what we did during this Social Studies and Art in-class field trip.  The students were able to create a land scene of a RURAL community like Saskatoon (Prairie life - much like we have here in Calgary).  The students also formed small groups and created posters based on the NATURAL RESOURCES of each of the 3 communities (Natural Resources - something from nature and we use it).  Each group then came up to the front of the class and presented their findings - the students were extremely BRAVE in coming up and teaching their classmates!  Great work everyone!  See if you can teach your family some of the interesting facts you learned about in your community!

Science - Exploring Liquids - see if you can add MORE DROPS of water on a penny at home.  Remember why the water creates a DOME SHAPE - elastic skin/surface tension:

LA - learning how important our IMAGINATION is in creating our ideas and then into stories:

Story Books used to introduce the concept and to enjoy:

"Imagine a Day".  "Imagine a Night".  "Imagine a Place".   "Imagine a World".

Enjoy your weekend and please continue to work on your RazKids and Mathletics (the more you work on these skills, the easier it will get for you to learn new skills). =;)

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND AND THANK YOU FOR WORKING SO HARD, GRADE 2 STUDENTS =;)

Parent Teacher Conferences

Good morning everyone,

A great big, "THANK YOU" to all the students and families who were able to attend our Parent Teacher Conferences this past Thursday evening and Friday morning.  I greatly appreciate you taking the time to hear all the AMAZING work our students are doing as well as the areas we can work on/improve on (much like Mr. Engel who continues to work on his spelling - we all have areas to improve on).  Thank you for all your SUPPORT and EFFORT in helping our students be even more SUCCESSFUL - they are doing wonderful things at school and I am very PROUD of their efforts!  Keep up the great work and always try your very best - YOU CAN DO IT! =;)

Enjoy your long weekend and we only have next week before we have our Spring Break.  Please continue to work on your RAZKIDS for reading support and MATHLETICS for math support.  It is also a great idea to read with your child in order to help with their decoding (sounding out of words) and asking them questions about their reading (using the 5Ws as questions - reading comprehension).

Thank you again for all your time and effort in supporting the learning of our FANTASTIC students!  You guys ROCK! =;)

Your teacher,

Mr. Engel

Week of Feb. 14 - 18, 2022

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend and thank you for continuing to work as BEST as you can on your school work and learning.  I greatly appreciate everyone who took the time to review their Report Cards in order to create their GRADE 2 LEARNING GOALS - remember what the Grade 1s said in their assembly - "IF YOU WANT TO GROW, PICK A GOAL".  With a goal in place, you are now able to focus on something you would like to improve on AND with strategies to help you reach the goal.  I am very proud of you for looking at what we can improve on and we still have lots of time to work on these - stay positive and always TRY YOUR BEST!  YOU CAN DO IT! =;)

Below are some pictures of our recent learning activities and I hope you went home with excitement and knowledge of these new topics.  You do know a lot, Grade 2s!  Believe in yourselves and you can reach for the stars!

HAVE A GREAT LONG WEEKEND AND KEEP WORKING ON YOUR RAZKIDS AND MATHLETICS.  Remember to search online for ideas for your Science Insulation Project!  Have fun and be creative - don't forget to do your WRITE-UP/2 PAGES on Homework as well!

GYM - learning how to resolve issues with each other:

SCIENCE - HOT AND COLD - Boiler Room/Furnace (how we heat our homes and school) and seeing what happens when snow melts (does it change, how does it change, etc.):

OLYMPICS - demonstrating our appreciation for others and supporting each other (Character Education/Health):
