Week of Oct. 25 - 29, 2021

Good morning everyone and Happy Halloween,

Thank you for a very productive week and in completing some very nice work over the past week.  I have added some pictures so you can share with your family and please have a FUN and SAFE weekend if you do celebrate Halloween.  We have continued with our work on numbers and Place Value (all numbers have a place that they belong to - Ones, Tens, Hundreds).   We have also created some fun activities and games to play in order to build different numbers and even create them in our Math Journals.  Also, we are working very hard in our Social Studies and in figuring out where our 3 communities are located.  Once we discovered where they were located, we then figured out that the land can tell us some very important facts about the community - like their NATURAL RESOURCES, ACTIVITIES, GOODS MADE, etc.  These are helping the students make deeper connections like Text to Self, Text to Text, and Text to World relationships.  In LA, we are finding more Juicy Words (words that describe our Nouns) and we had a very funny but educational activity but with the use of Toilet Paper - each square that was picked by a student was then used as an ADJECTIVE to help describe themselves.  The students then gathered up their amazing courage and came up to the front of the class to share themselves with others - this was an excellent activity as the students had fun and continued to learn the importance of descriptions AND in believing in themselves by coming up to the front and sharing their ideas.  AMAZING WORK AND EFFORT, GRADE 2 STUDENTS!  With this said, we also read some fun Scholastic Books with scary stories - I read with expression, pausing at punctuation, and acting a bit in order for the students to see and understand the power great story telling can have on their readers.  Remember, these stories were all FICTION - not real =;)

Keep up the great work and please share the pictures below with your family.  You are doing amazing work and I hope you are very PROUD of your efforts!  Thank you, Grade 2 students and families for your continued support in our learning - YOU ROCK!  =;)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, GRADE 2 STUDENTS!
